* Three-year letterwinner in baseball, two-year letterwinner in football and basketball, 1971 Bringle Award winner as top male athlete in Elkhart Community Schools

* Football – helped EHS to “mythical” 1970 state championship, honorable mention All-America (1970), first team All-State (’70), first team All-Northern Indiana Conference (’69-70), and North-South All-Star Game pick as center

* Basketball – team captain for 1971 state runnerup, All-Tourney at state and semistate

* Baseball – First EHS player to record 5 hits in one game, hit .311 in 1971 (third in NIC), team’s outstanding scholar-athlete

* College – Indiana University (1975), three-year center/long snapper, tri-captain (1974), three-time Big Ten All-Academic team (1972-’74), outstanding freshman scholar-athlete
